Name your audience
Tell the AI who will read the output.
The same message lands completely differently depending on who reads it. A product launch email for investors needs data and ROI language. The same launch for loyal customers needs excitement and a discount code. Without an audience, the AI writes for everyone — which means it writes for no one. Naming your reader lets the AI match their vocabulary, concerns, and attention span.
Write a social media post about my bakery.
Write a 60-word Instagram caption for health-conscious parents aged 28-40 in Brighton who care about organic, locally sourced ingredients. Promote our new sourdough kids' lunch box range (3 options, from £4.50). Tone: warm and reassuring, not salesy. End with a question to encourage comments.
The audience is a real person — not 'bakery customers' but 'health-conscious parents in Brighton who care about organic ingredients'. The format, product details, and tone instruction round out the prompt so the AI has everything it needs.
Use the formula: 'for [who] in [where/context] who care about [what matters to them]'. The more real your reader feels, the better the output.
