Be specific about what you want

The more specific your prompt, the better the output.

Why this matters

Vague prompts force the AI to guess what you meant. It fills in the blanks with generic assumptions — wrong length, wrong angle, wrong tone. When you specify exact constraints, the AI stops guessing and starts delivering. The difference between a throwaway paragraph and copy you can actually paste into your newsletter is usually three or four specific details.

Weak prompt

Write something about marketing.

Strong prompt

Write a 150-word email for existing customers who bought in the last 90 days, announcing our summer sale with 20% off sitewide. Use a friendly, urgent tone and end with a single call-to-action button linking to /summer-sale.

Specificity (this lesson)AudienceConcrete languageFormat

Five constraints, zero guesswork. The word count and offer details are specificity. The audience segment tells the AI who to write for. The tone replaces vague adjectives with a clear voice. The CTA defines the output format. Every principle works together.

Actionable tip

Before hitting generate, ask yourself: could a stranger read this and know exactly what to write? If not, add the missing detail.
